(chapter84)Two Formulas: Fetus Protection and Lactation Promotion

Miscarriage at three months of pregnancy is typically not due to physical injury but rather stems from prolonged emotional depression in women. This leads to liver heat accumulation (liver Qi stagnation with heat), which adversely affects fetal development. The Fetus-Protecting Powder (Baotai Wuyou San) from the medical classic Guidelines for Easy Childbirth (Dasheng Pian) has (studied in traditional contexts) remarkably effective through repeated clinical validations. When taken monthly from early pregnancy, this formula not only prevents miscarriage but also reduces risks of abnormal fetal positioning during delivery, retained placenta, and postpartum hemorrhage. This is regarded as an extraordinary formula.

Lactation Enhancement Section
Insufficient breast milk production has multiple causes:

  1. Constitutional deficiency of Qi and Blood
  2. Blocked milk ducts
  3. Reduced lactation due to spicy/irritating foods
  4. Emotional stress or anger disrupting milk flow
  5. Digestive stagnation or external cold exposure

Breast milk originates from Blood transformed by Qi circulation:
Strong Qi → Abundant milk
Weak Qi → Reduced milk
Stagnant Qi → Blocked flow
Heat accumulation → Clogged ducts

By regulating Qi flow, lactation can generally be restored. However, genuine milk deficiency in elderly mothers due to depleted vitality cannot be resolved by herbal supplements like ginseng or deer antler, as plant/animal materials cannot directly transform into milk.
